Dr. Gerald Braun is the civil Director of the German Space Situational Awareness Center (GSSAC) and holds also the position of Dept. Head SSA within the German Space Administration in DLR. The GSSAC as an operational civ/mil. center has been established in 2011 in Uedem.  Dr. Braun coordinates the cooperation between the German Air Force and the civil side on the operational and the strategic level. As Department Head SSA within the German Space Administration he is responsible for national SSA research activities within the German Space program. Until 2001 he followed a scientific career in the field of remote sensing and GIS, establishing research activities in Bolivia, Northern Pakistan, South Africa and Namibia. In 2002 he changed to Space Administration In DLR and took over the responsibility for the national Earth Observation Application program. He was responsible for the implementation of the German key aspects within GMES and coordinated the interaction between EC and national ministries. From 2010-2011 Dr. Braun was leading a section within ESA’s Integrated Application Program at ESA ESTEC in The Netherlands.
